Obviously none of us ever thought we’d be writing and creating content for a global pandemic, yet here we are.
I’m a homebody. I love cooking at home, eating at home, working from home, and overall, just being home. Since starting my own personal quarantine 12 83 days ago, I thought this would be easy. I was incorrect. I miss meeting friends for coffee, the option to dine out, visiting friends in different cities, and deciding if I want to work from somewhere other than my dining room office for the day. I took my choices for granted, and you probably did, too.
With all of that said, I thought that sharing what I have been doing might be helpful to others who are looking for a change of daily pattern.
Here we go!
1.) Waking up before 8am and eating an actual sit down breakfast with my mom (she’s stuck with me!)
2.) Testing out recipes Eating recipes my mom is testing.
3.) Working, but breaking up the hours with a new Netflix / Hulu show (The Bold Type is so good), and playing with my dog.
4.) Listening to podcasts. After working in the industry, I never thought I’d get back into pods. Here are some of my current faves:
Wellness Realness; Basic Witches; The Uncensored Empath.
5.) Facetiming friends and family.
6.) Purchasing from BIPOC businesses. This is extremely important. Whole30 has a great list of Black-owned bookstores, check it out.
7.) Trying out the free yoga classes being offered online: there are so many! It feels good to move my body.
8.) Cleaning, trashing, and donating. We have so much time now to go through the lifetime of shit in our basements, attics, and garages – do it.
9.) Supporting small businesses. I’m ordering coffee from my local roaster to stay caffeinated & to help ensure they stay in business.
10.) Reframing my money mindset. This one is rough, especially for me since I don’t have the greatest money relationship. A lot of us do not know if this paycheck will be the last, and that’s scary as hell. Taking time to remind myself that I am safe, healthy, and that everything will be ok helps.
11.) Dancing! Please don’t forget to dance! Throw on your favorite album, playlist, band, whatever – get up and dance, dammit.
We will get through these weird, uncertain, and trying times. I have complete faith. The world will feel, look, and operate very differently than how it does currently, and I’m ok with that. Right now, rather than worrying about the future, I’m placing focus on what I can control. My mindset, what I am consuming, my physical wellness, what I’m creating, my breath, and how I’m showing up as a better human each day.
